Caladesi Island State Park and beach, voted America's best beach in 2008, is a secluded island getaway right off the coast of Dunedin.  If you're looking for a relaxing day trip to the beach without all the overcrowding and distraction, then this is the place to be.

Accessible only by boat or ferry, Caladesi Island boasts three miles of peaceful, non-crowded beaches giving you that beautiful private beach feel without the whopping price tag.

The Caladesi Island Ferry is a great choice for transportation to the island if you don't have a boat.  The ferry leaves every hour beginning at 10 a.m. (weather permitting) and visitors are permitted to stay on the island for up to four hours.  A round trip will cost you $12 for the adults and $6 for the kids.

Once you're there, enjoy three miles of nature trails, canoe and kayak rentals, and a playground to keep the kids busy.

The mangrove-covered kayak trail is a true Florida experience as you wind through watery passages on the island and observe the wildlife and foliage up close and personal.  Take a hike and explore this unique island ecosystem by foot to get some exercise and see nature in a way not many other places can afford.

If you get hungry, Caladesi Cafe on the island has you covered.  Enjoy beach-inspired menu items like fish and chips, island burgers, and fruit smoothies.

If this sounds intriguing, plan a trip today!  Forget all these crowded beaches during the summer, get some real peace and relaxation at the award-winning Caladesi Island State Park.
