It's no secret that St. Petersburg has an abundance of fantastic museums rife with historical artifacts, art, stories and much more.  We're really lucky to live in a city with such an abundance of museums in one concentrated area.  We're even luckier to have FREE Museum Day sponsored by the Smithsonian this Saturday, September 24. If you're looking for free things to do in St. Pete, this is the day to do it. Here are a few participating on this special day.

Florida Holocaust Museum - Definitely not the happiest museum in St. Petersburg, but the most important.  Head to the Holocaust Museum and learn about one of the largest tragedies of the modern era.  If you haven't been, it's a truly harrowing experience that everyone should witness at least once.

Morean Arts Center - The Morean Arts Center dates back to 1917 as a hub for the arts in St. Petersburg.  This community-focused arts center boasts a rotating assortment of exhibits from sculptures to paintings, glass and so much more.

Museum of Fine Arts - The Museum of Fine Arts is easily the most diverse and expansive museum in St. Petersburg.  Aside from the rotating exhibits, the Museum of Fine Arts holds 18,000 works from around the world culled from the ancient past and present.  Revel in works from famous artists including Monet, O'Keefe, and many more.

St. Petersburg Museum of History - the Museum of History is St. Petersburg's oldest museum.  Explore this museum teeming with St. Petersburg and Florida history you can see up close and in the flesh.

The Pier Aquarium - Not quite a museum per se, but the Pier Aquarium is a great place to bring the kids and check out some pretty awesome aquatic life.  Explore over 17 different tanks of aquatic life from around the world or get up close and personal in their touch tank with sharks, rays, sea urchins and more.

If you're looking for free things to do in St. Petersburg, free museum day on Saturday, September 24 is a great bet.
