Well, how 'bout this.  In a recent list compiled by tourism website escapehere.com St. Petersburg is listed fourth as one of the "7 Most Beautiful and Underrated Cities and Towns in the U.S."

In comparison to other, shall we say, less desirable rankings the city's made, like first place in Men's Health's "Saddest Cities in Americas" back in 2011 and joining Tampa/Clearwater under the banner of Tampa Bay as the top spot on CNBC's "Most Stressful" metro areas in 2012, this designation is finally one the city can take a little pride in.

Escapehere.com cites St. Petersburg's warm and clear year-round weather, beautiful beaches and the Salvador Dali Museum as reasons for the city's place on the list.

Out of seven cities, St. Pete ranked 4th, sitting ahead of Newport, Rhode Island in 5th; Perdido Key Florida in 6th; and Lincoln, Nebraska in 7th.

Beating out the beloved 727 area is Virginia Beach, Virginia ranked third; followed by Charleston, South Carolina in second; and Tunica, Mississippi ranked as the most beautiful and underrated city in the U.S. by escapehere.com.
