Every city's got a few; restaurants the age of grandparents, around since the days of menus with nothing over the price of a quarter, and still, somehow, as delicious and relevant to the city as they day they opened.  For St. Pete, this is The Chattaway.

This hidden gem of a restaurant (located on the south side at the intersection of 4th Street and 22nd Avenue South), was opened in 1922 as a grocery store and gas station for some of St. Pete's oldest residents.  Once prohibition ended in the 1930's it changed into a drive-in where you could pull your car up, order some food, and never leave the cabin as you dined on The Chattaway's tasty fare.

In 1940's, their beloved burger, the Chattaburger, was introduced and it's been nothing short of insanely delicious and historically St. Pete ever since then.

Today, The Chattaway is a one-of-a-kind outdoor eatery just outside of Downtown St. Pete.  Walk into the dining area and you're greeted with a collection of colorful awnings perfect for blocking out the summer sun, picnic tables, and an assortment of quirky odds and ends collected throughout the years like the slew of bathtub flower pots lining the place.

Enjoy menu items like the famous Chattaburger -  7 ounces of delectable, fried ground beef between two soft buns; the chicken basket with another 60 year old recipe consisting of half of a deep-fried chicken, coleslaw, french fries, and a roll; or their barbecue pork sandwich with french fries.

Other selections include a few different variations on the Chattaburger, sandwiches, wings, seafood, soup, chili, and much more.  Live Music is typically featured on the patio many nights throughout the week as well.

If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind and uniquely St. Petersburg dining experience, The Chattaway will happily provide and fill you up with some tasty, time-tested grub.  Stop in today!
