There's something inherently great about little, hole-in-the-wall restaurants around the city.  They're typically not that attractive in comparison to newer establishments, looking like they were pulled from any time range between 1960 and the early 90's,  but more than make up for it with their food if they're doing it right.

Gulf Coast Po' Boys in Largo could easily be distinguished as one of these places and, as far as the food goes, they're definitely doing it right.  Walk into their tiny location and you're greeted with an open kitchen lined with fryers and a flat top grill, about five seats beneath the window-side bar, a chalkboard menu, and not a whole lot else.  They're not trying to win you over with some cozy, contemporary environment.  The focus here is the food and, man, it shows.

If you're a fan of the classic New Orleans po' boy sandwich, you've got to try Gulf Coast's.  With big chunks of seasoned, golden-fried shrimp inside pillowy french bread, the shrimp po' boy at Gulf Coast Po' Boys might just rank up there with the best you've ever had.

The owner trained as an upscale restaurant chef in New Orleans for a number of years before coming to Largo to open this shop and his affinity for tantelizing cuisine really shows through his food.  Mayonaise is replaced with a spicy remoulade that's out of this world, the shrimp is seasoned with a sinfully delicious spice blend, and the tomato relish, if you ask for it, will keep you coming back for more.

Other menu highlights include a roast beef po' boy, fried catfish, cajun fries, red beans and rice, and much more.

If this sounds delicious (believe us, it is) head out there today, chow down, and give Gulf Coast Po' Boys a good word here on 727area.com!
