Recently opened in Dunedin, Bascetti's Italian Grille is a new restaurant offering an eclectic mix of traditional Italian cuisine in a comfortable neighborhood environment.

Located on Dunedin's Main Street, Bascetti's was opened by local restauranteur Jimmy Stewart back in July.  Stewart, a longtime figure in Dunedin's restaurant scene, is now dividing his time between Bascetti's and the well-revered Spoto's Steak Joint 2 which he also owns.

Bascetti's takes Stewarts knack for culinary innovation and translates it into a small, but ample menu stacked with contemporary-minded Italian fare and more traditional Italian dishes.

This includes a rich assortment of antipasto dishes, salads, pizzas and flatbreads, entrees, pastas, and more.

Take, for instance, Bascetti's Mozzarella Fritti - fresh mozzarella wrapped in, of all things, spring rolls then deep fried and served with fresh marinara -  or Bascetti's Blanco pizza with fresh spinach, Italian sausage, portabella mushrooms, and a creamy asiago cheese sauce.

When it comes to the main course, Bascetti's Italian Grill offers an assortment of veal, chicken, and fish entrees as well as pastas and a handful of daily specials.  Entree highlights at Bascetti's include classic carbonara filled with pancetta in a rich, creamy sauce over penne; Veal Granchio with sauteed veal medallions and crab in a creamy cognac sauce over pasta; and Harry Caray's Famous Chicken Vesuvio - braised half chicken with potatoes, garlic, and peas in a lemon white wine sauce.
