Redrawing the Lines: St. Pete Elections Rigged Against the Black Vote
Unlike most U.S. cities, St. Pete has both a primary and general election for city council, meaning a majority black district can vote on who they want to represent the black community and then the majority white city can veto that vote. The St. Petersburg, FL elections are RIGGED against the black community vote. This Sunday join the St. Petersburg International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement as we expose the political technique of gerrymandering (to divide, a state, school district, into political units that give one group an unfair advantage) and the role it has played in the gentrification of the black community of St. Pete. There is a peoples movement for Eritha Akile' Cainion for District 7 city council and Anne Hirsch for District 5 city council which is challenging the city government and the plans of the big developers to make St Pete a playground for the rich. This movement is fighting for a platform of "Make the Southside Black Again" and "Unity Through Reparations!"Come out to this community meeting and bring forward the issues you care about and the solutions you want. Food will be provided!Sunday, June 30, 3-5pm
