Description
Explore the Riviera Trail at Weedon Island Preserve on this two-mile, guided hike. The natural dirt path through uplands and scrub habitats goes over an ancient midden and along portions of Riviera Bay.
Event Details
This walk helps participants experience how a small clan of the Weeden Island Culture, part of their larger prehistoric tribe, may have lived in and interacted with the natural environment they found here. This story is told through the lens of the gopher tortoise, the sabal palm, and Florida’s ancient crystalline sand. Walking slowly, this hike takes about 1.5 hours.
This hike is suggested for ages 6+. We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes, a hat, and bringing a water bottle. For questions, please contact Weedon Island Preserve ta (727)453-6500 or weedonisland@pinellascounty.org.
