St. Pete's iconic Pier will soon be no more.  Earlier this year, city officials decided to do away with the classic, upside down pyramid design and give this classic waterfront destination a full-on facelift.

Now, after 38 years in existence, The Pier is due for a $50 million renovation that would ideally make it a destination that has an equal level of appeal for both locals and tourists alike.  Back in June, the City of St. Petersburg decided to put out a request for designs of this new Pier.  Anyone could enter and a panel including city council members, professionals from the architecture community, and a mayor's designee narrowed the designs down to the the top three.

Now these top three designers have been named.

They include the Bjarke Ingels Group of New York City, Michael Maltzan Architecture Inc. of Los Angeles, and West 8 with Allied Works Architecture of New York City.

All of their potential Pier designs will be on display at the St. Petersburg Museum of History from December 6 through 30.  The exhibit is called "Look, Think, Share" and will be FREE and open to public.  Not only that, but you can comment on each design with your thoughts.

The designs will be moved from the St. Petersburg Museum of History to The Coliseum from December 16-18 for a public jury presentation.  The general public is invited, but comments won't be heard.  The jury will rank each design and make a final decision by January 20 of next year.

After the St. Petersburg City Council approves the design no later than February 2, St. Petersburg will have a new Pier on the horizon.
