The Edible Peace Patch Project's mission is to cultivate healthy minds and bodies through hands-on educational gardens producing successful individuals and thriving communities. The Edible Peace Patch Project is a community based non-profit organization, whose mission is to eliminate poverty as a factor in health & well-being. Our vision is to accomplish these goals through education, utilizing hands-on learning in garden beds. Our sustainable gardens are built and cared for by EPPP staff, volunteers and students. These gardens are ultimately sustained by partnerships and the community. Currently we operate seven schoolyard gardens in Pinellas County, Florida. These include; Campbell Park Elementary, Fairmount Park Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Maximo Elementary, Gulfport Elementary, Lealman Avenue Elementary and Sanderlin IB World School. In the past decade, diet, nutrition and its effect on health has been widely discussed. The Edible Peace Patch Project has recognized the need to educate schools and community the very basics of nutrition; starting with the garden. It is our belief, that a teachable garden creates an environment where hands-on learning, provides the knowledge and skills needed for students and their families to get back to the “root” of proper diet, food access and good health.
