Get ready, Tampa Bay area.  The Hooters World Wing-Eating Championship is coming to the original Hooters in Clearwater on Thursday, July 26.  This inaugural contest will pit some of the best competitive eaters in the world against each other for the ultimate title of World Wing-Eating Champion and some serious bragging rights.

The contest is the culmination of a 10-city Hooters World Wing-Eating Tour that kicked off in Augusta, Ga., in April.  Guests young and old are encouraged to attend this free event which will kick off at 6 p.m. in the parking lot with live music from The Black Honkeys.

After the live music, the competitive eaters will square off in a chow-down competition where some are expected to down an average of about 200 wings in 10 minutes.  Competitors (who must've won in a previous regional contest) include Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti, Crazy Legs Condit, and Micah “Wing Kong” Collins.

The championship will kick off a celebration throughout the weekend that will lead up to National Chicken Wing Day on Sunday, July 29.  On this day, all participating Hooters restaurants throughout the country will offer a "buy 10 wings, get 10 wings free" deal for anyone interested.
