Clearwater Public Library to Host “Love Affair with Cuba” Photography Exhibit
CLEARWATER, Fla. | August 20, 2015 – “How dare you take us to a lovely lunch straight from the airport,” local photographer Leslie Joy Ickowitz thought to herself as the adrenaline rush made it hard to sit still. With her nose pressed against the restaurant glass she yearned to be out in the streets of Havana, mixing with the energy that made her pulse race.
This September, Clearwater Public Library’s sunny Osceola Gallery will host, “Love Affair with Cuba”—a Leslie Joy Original photography exhibit from her recent visit to Havana and Varadero on a People to People Cultural Exchange.
“We met artists, musicians, organic farmers and a fashion designer who works on the rooftop of her home under the blazing sun,” Ickowitz says. “Every day enriched my life. Now that I’m home, people who overhear me talking about Cuba begin to wander over. There’s intense curiosity surrounding our mysterious island neighbor right now.”
The artist reception will take place at Clearwater Main Library—100 North Osceola Avenue—on Wednesday, September 9th from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Renowned artist Milton Rochman, “Painter of Dreams,” whose colorful, joyous work celebrates his belief that woman is the center of the universe, will be showing in the adjacent gallery. Light refreshments will be served.
“I love the overall vibe of this show and the library was very excited knowing their audience would be interested,” says Jerri Menaul of Canvas Zoo, part of My Favorite Art Place in Clearwater. Canvas Zoo is a sponsor of this show. “The artwork is captivating and beautiful, and the topic is timely.”
“Love Affair with Cuba” will be on display in the Osceola Gallery at Clearwater Main Library from September 5 – 25.
