Great news for all those in St. Petersburg and beyond looking to travel south on I-275 and cross that famous bridge of ours; the Sunshine Skyway is now back open following a tumultuous pouding over the past few days from Tropical Storm Debby.

A closure of this length and magnitude is extremely rare and was all the more bolstered by the closure of both the Howard Franklin Bridge and the Courtney Campbell Causeway during a period on Monday evening.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the closure of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge affected the around 50,000 motorists who take the bridge every day and were forced to take a long detour on I-75.

The Skyway was reopened around 3 a.m. today.  Be warned, though, that wind speeds up to 20 mph with strong gusts have still been felt on the bridge.

In addition to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, many other Pinellas County areas closed down including beaches like Clearwater Beach, Fort De Soto Park, and Sand Key Park, as well as multiple roads due to flooding throughout the area.  Let's hope this is the last of our big storm woes for the summer...knock on wood.
