To slow the spread of COVID-19, airports all around the country, are taking precautions internally to keep passengers safe and healthy.

While the federal government has banned air travel to most of Europe, Ireland, and the UK, it has not been restricted domestically. Locally,  Tampa International Airport has established its own set of guidelines, and St. Pete-Clearwater Airport has also launched an update plan to keep passengers safe as the country battles this pandemic.

Airports perform thermal screening of passengers to spot fevers caused by infections such as COVID-19 by using mass-screening systems that measure the skin temperature at high-speed.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. If a tissue isn’t available, cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve, not your hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Put distance between yourself and other people.
  • When possible, avoid touching surfaces.
  • While it’s not iron-clad guarantee that you won’t get sick, wear a facemask. Studies show wearing a mask is helping to lower the spread of COVID
