Named for Andrew Jackson, Jacksonville was founded in 1822, incorporated in 1832, and consolidated in 1968. It is the largest city in Florida, the 12th-largest city in the United States, and is also the nation's largest city in terms of area, covering nearly all of North Florida's Duval County. The population in the 2010 Census was 821,784 with an estimate in 2017 of 892,062.

According to Zillow's data collected through September 30, 2019, the city is considered a “hot market” with an average home value of $179,600. That increased 5.8% over the last year and is predicted to rise 4.3% within the coming year, making the purchase of a golf course community home a very good investment. The average rental is $1,300, which is lower than the Jacksonville Metro median of $1,425.

If it is the dream of you and your family to move into one of the top golf communities in Jacksonville, the following five are exceptional places to start your search for a residence where you can come home from a long day at work and walk out into what is practically your own backyard to take in a quick nine holes before dinner.

These communities are ranked as some of the best and also include beautiful home options with well-designed modern and spacious floor plans, luxurious features, private pools and spas, and many upgrades:

Sawgrass Country Club

Perhaps the most well-known, Sawgrass is a large-scale golf-cart friendly community close to the beach that provides a prestigious golfing experience. It has become one of North Florida's and the nation's top courses, having undergone a Master Golf Renovation project in 2013 when all 27 holes were completely renovated. It has been recognized by Golf Week, Golf Magazine, and Golf Digest. Sawgrass is home to the National Headquarters and The Players Championship Golf Tournament and is played on by many professional golfers.

Jacksonville Golf & Country Club

This JGCC neighborhood provides a member-owned private country club established in 1989 when the 18-hole golf course was designed by Clyde Johnston and Fuzzy Zoeller. There is a large 25,000-square-foot clubhouse with incredible views from a wraparound veranda of one of the area's most challenging and well-maintained golf courses, practice facilities, tennis courts, a heated pool, a fitness center, four gourmet dining venues, meeting spaces, events, and more.

Marsh Landing Country Club

In Ponte Vedra Beach, Marsh Landing is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the Jacksonville area with beautiful beaches and an incredible scenic championship 18-hole golf course designed by Ed Seay that challenges even the most skilled golfers.

Glen Kernan

One of the most prestigious golf communities, Glen Kernan offers a spectacular 18-hole private golf course designed by Robert Walker and custom-built homes. There is plenty of challenge with large greens and landing areas with strategic bunkers and length fun to navigate.

Atlantic Beach Country Club

A resort-style community close to the Atlantic Ocean, this neighborhood provides a unique lifestyle that combines history with ocean breezes and a true Florida landscape with a newly redesigned golf course by Erik Larsen. Jack Nicklaus recorded his first double eagle on the 18th hole here in 1966.
