Join Uhuru Solidarity Movement - St. Petersburg for a screening of the 2001 film "Lumumba" directed by Raoul Peck. Based on the true story of Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of the newly independent Democratic Republic of Congo.

Lumumba was an uncompromising anti-colonial leader of African people to liberate Congo from the clutches of imperialist Belgium. On January 17, 1961 he was assassinated by a firing squad in execution-style by the Belgian and US military. Belgian tried to cover up the murder for decades, knowing that African people around the world would resist in protest of this murder.
