The Green
The Green’s Marching Orders has impressively debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart and reached another charting milestone as the album hit #15 on Billboard’s Independent Release and # 62 on Billboard’s Top 200 Sales Chart. Marching Orders (released on October 20, 2017 via longtime label partner Easy Star Records) is the band’s fourth studio album and their third album to claim the #1 spot on the Billboard Reggae Chart and their highest charting album on the Top 200.
Before The Green, no Hawaii-based reggae band had crossed over to the mainland and become one of the biggest bands in the genre. No Hawaii-based reggae band had been able to deliver radio-friendly pop hits, inspiring anthems, and drum-and-bass heavy reggae grooves inspired by foundational bands like Aswad and Steel Pulse. The Green has accomplished all of this and much more in their groundbreaking career, and now have gone even further with Marching Orders.
“This album truly is diverse,” says Thompson. “There’s roots, dancehall, pop, rock and, of course, love songs.”
The Green will support the release with a nationwide tour in January/February 2018, with support from Sammy J, Leilani Wolfgramm, and Jesse Royal (on select dates).
Sammy Johnson
Australian native, New Zealand-bred soulful reggae star Sammy Johnson will bring his silky reggae soul music back to the United States this winter as special guest in support of the Green’s Marching Orders Tour. Sammy Johnson collides his Polynesian roots with his love for modern jazz and R&B artists like D’Angelo, Amy Winehouse, and Lauryn Hill, which results in a passionate musical hybrid that is undeniably soothing. He will be on tour alongside Hawaiian-based reggae band The Green.
Sammy Johnson has remained busy releasing a constant influx of music since his breakthrough self-titled 2014 EP, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Reggae Charts. He has since seen an organic growth as a result of his hard work and dedication to his craft. Since his debut, Sammy Johnson has since enjoyed multiple sold-out performances and large festival appearances. Accompanying the soulful vocalist are musicians Gabriel Miller (guitar), Samuel Ikeda (bass), and Elias English (drums).
