**NOTE: Due to Hurricane Irma, this event has been rescheduled from its original date and time. It will take place on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 6:30pm.**
The Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg presents Art and Media in the Era of Extremism, a unique panel discussion that includes two of the most trusted institutions in the media industry, the Poynter Institute and WUSF Public Radio. The event will examine the influence various forms of media have in our ever-changing social and political climate and showcase some of the most well-known thought leaders in the community.
Poynter Institute Vice President, Kelly McBride, will moderate the conversation among panelists, including:
• Gregory Green, Tampa-based Artist, Associate Professor, Sculpture and Extended Media, USF Tampa
• Indira Lakshmanan, Newmark Chair in Journalism Ethics at Poynter
• Mary Shedden, News Director at WUSF
• Kristen Shepherd, Museum of Fine Arts Executive Director
Through a discussion about the power of words and images, MFA Executive Director Kristen Shepherd convenes a dynamic conversation inspired by the provocative art experiences featured in the Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration that focus on the positive and negative impacts of media influence.
This event is free with Museum admission.
At a time when extreme voices have emerged in global political discourse and recent polls show distrust of the media is startlingly high, this panel highlights the need for an open dialogue on these issues.
