Training Summary:

Summary of Training: This presentation will address the frustration of working with a parent who understands today but doesn't follow through.  Is it you or is it her?  The participant will receive an overview of FASD, the behaviors seen and strategies to use. This presentation will address the familiar parent who understands how to do the task today but can’t (or won’t) tomorrow.  Attendees will be presented with the latest information about FASD, its prevalence, how FASD is expressed in behavior and the implications for those who work with FASD parents.  Specific scenarios depicting behaviors and their impact help illustrate strategies to use and skills to teach that can maximize the potential for success AND reduce frustration.

Summary of Hand-in-Hand Training: Will present the components of an infant care training program that can be offered to caregivers of babies who have substance exposure. The Hand-in-Hand training is designed to provide individuals with the best care practices for SEN babies to align with the educational skills taught in the hospital by NICU nurses, as well as reviewing preventable death measures.  The training includes a hands on skill development practice that focuses on performing calming techniques such as swaddling & swaddling baths to reduce stimuli, identifying safe sleep places and setting up a pack in play. The training presents information that increases understanding of head trauma in babies and the importance of knowing who is watching the child and safe care practices to include coping with parental stressors.
