It's always an exciting time when the Museum of Fine Arts in Downtown St. Petersburg gets ready to unveil a new exhibit.  This mecca for art, from the ancient to contemporary, is the perfect attraction for revisiting since its exhibits constantly change.  The newest in store is Ancient Egypt - Art and Magic opening on December 17.

The exhibit's collection of 101 items from ancient Egypt has never been seen in America until now and features a host of artifacts from mummy cases to sacred texts, other media, and more.   Mummy cases are the largest artifacts in the exhibit - some reaching six and a half feet tall - and come decorated with intricate works of painting to ensure eternal life.

Other items in the Ancient Egypt collection include tomb and temple reliefs, papyrus fragments, alabaster vessels, and various objects comprised of rare and precious stones.

To celebrate this dazzling new exhibit, the Museum of Fine Arts will be open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday, December 26-Thursday, December 29.  After that, regular museum hours will go back into effect - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday; and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Admission to the museum is $17 for adults, $15 for those 65 and older, and $10 for students seven and over, including college students with current I.D. Children under seven and Museum members are admitted free.
