The doors open at 5:30 for this last call happy hour concert, as The Florida Orchestra provides the perfect after-work happy hour in Tampa. At 6:30, The Florida Orchestra will grace the stage, performing Rimsky-Korsakov’s haunting music of Scheherazade.
This is a story of a young woman named Scheherazade, who marries the Sultan in order to save future women from the fate of being taken as the Sultan's wives one day and then murdered the next morning, a tradition he vowed to maintain. Each night, Scheherazade tells the Sultan a story, entrancing him in the tales she weaves that he cannot bear to execute her the following day. How could he risk not hearing the rest of her stories?
The Florida Orchestra is known for weaving their instruments together in ways as captivating as Scheherazade's storytelling. Michael Francis will direct the evening's performance, surely with his usual vigor and passion for the story behind the sound.
