The Dali Museum is offering several different online events and virtual offerings this summer as the museum remains closed to the public. You'll find online fine art exhibits and activities about surrealism to a complete virtual tour of the internally-recognized museum on their handy app. The Dalí urges art lovers to continue accessing and appreciating the beauty of surreal artwork from the safety of their homes.

Dalí Museum Marketing Director, Beth Bell says participants who are familiar with the museum will remain engaged and active with the Dalí and those new to the museum may develop a fondness for Dalí's art. Bell says, "When it comes to artwork, I don't believe anything can replace the power of seeing Dalí art in person, but the digital offerings can offer additional context for finding meaning within the art. There are four ways art enthusiasts can continue to observe and appreciate Dalí art online, including virtual reality, the museum's app, online exhibits, and lesson plans with supplemental videos."

Dreams of Dalí Virtual Reality

The museum is offering a virtual reality experience for participants to immerse themselves in Dalí's surreal painting, Archaeological Reminiscence of Millet's "Angelus". This award-winning virtual experience will place participants into the surreal world of Dalí and you can expect to journey into the famous towers and gaze into the dreamlike faraway lands featured in the surrealist paintings. This experience can be downloaded from anywhere in the world.

You'll find ways to enjoy Dali's work outside too!

The Museum App

This app provides a spectacular 360-degree view of the award-winning museum. The application features augmented reality technology designed for bringing Dalí's artwork to life. Virtual maps are also provided for museum-goers to utilize when The Dalí Museum reopens. Additionally, the application includes virtual themed tours of the entire museum for participants to explore the plethora of artwork showcased in the comfort of their home. You can download the app on Google Play and the App Store.

Online Exhibits

Along with the virtual tours on the app, there are also numerous online exhibits featuring surreal artwork for participants to observe. The online exhibits include local student's surrealist art, Dalí book illustrations, Dalí magazine covers, and advertisements. The online exhibits are featured on the app for several months. There are also Dalí exhibits that are permanently showcased on the museum's app and their website. Fine art enthusiasts can browse artwork online by categories including objects, prints, photographs, work on paper, paintings, and book illustrations.

Videos and Lesson Plans

Designed for teachers and parents to educate students about surreal artwork, The Dalí features informative videos on YouTube linked to their website. The videos involve themes regarding what surrealism is, how to create surreal art, and why teaching surrealist art is important. Lesson plans and activities are also featured online to supplement the educational videos the museum offers on their website. There are lesson plans strategically designed for grades 3 to 6 and grades 6 to 12. Educational activities include detailed instructions for parents or teachers to teach chalk art, drawing, decalcomania, collages, and sculptures.

Additionally, the museum features a live monthly speaker series "Coffee with a Curator" on the museum's YouTube channel. The series takes place the first Wednesday of every month and educates participants about Dalí's and his influence in the world of art.

Bell says they'll continue evaluating which virtual offerings their audience engages with to decide which offerings to continue. The museum's goal is to continue educating the community about Dalí, subsequently preserving his legacy.
