Tampa Bay area thrill seekers are in for a treat when a special water-propelled jet pack that can soar up to 30 feet in the air comes to St. Pete Beach's Tradewinds Resort in April.

The jet pack, created by a company called Jetlev, will be available for rent alongside a growing collection of other water-based sports recently added to the resort including a self propelled surf board, a giant water slide, a bungee trampoline, and floating playground 60 feet off the shore in the Gulf of Mexico.

The pack works like this: a 300-horsepower engine strapped to the rider's back sucks water from the ocean via a long tube then shoots the water through its dual nozzles with enough force to lift the rider up to 30 feet in the air.

A Jetlev operator works the controls for the speed of the jet pack and communicates to the rider who steers the pack through an ear piece device.

The Tradewinds Resort will offer 45 minute Jetlev sessions at $250 for resort guests and $285 for the rest of the general public.  Jetlev fliers must be at least 18 years old.

This is the first year the Jetlev company has sold this awesome water toy.  At an initial price point around $100,000, the wealthy and resorts like the Tradewinds make up the majority of this product's initial buyers.
