While biking, walking, and running are great in the urban streetscape of the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area.  It's not always the best place to exercise if you're looking for some peace and, more importantly, safety.  While convenient and typically speedier than the sidewalk, riding right alongside cars on the road is always a gamble.  Luckily, those around the Pinellas County area have the Pinellas Trail.  A 37-mile trail dedicated to biking, walking, running, essentially any form of transportation that isn't a motorized vehicle, the Pinellas Trail is a great way to get out and enjoy some recreation in St. Petersburg.

The trail extends from Gulfport all the way up to Tarpon Springs.  Once a corridor for CSX trains, the trail existed as a barren track before Pinellas County officials decided to convert it into the trail in the early 90's.  The trail's popularity exceeded all expectations and has become a staple for recreation in St. Petersburg and surrounding areas ever since.

Not only is the Pinellas Trail a much safer way to enjoy walking, biking, and other activities in the area, but way more scenic and peaceful as well.  Enjoy artwork all along the trail including nine sculptures that pay tribute to the trail's link to railroad history.

For safety reasons, the trail is only open during daylight hours.  Bicyclists are not permitted to wear headphones at any time and any kids under the age of 16 are required to wear a helmet.

For some great, safe recreation in St. Petersburg and surrounding areas, the Pinellas Trail is a great choice for adults and kids alike.  Get out there and have some fun today!
