Whole Foods Market, the national health food grocery chain known for its organic, natural, and hard-to-find foods, might just be opening a new store in Downtown St. Pete.

Whole Foods officials are eyeing a potential site for a new store located next to the Synovus Bank building at 333 Third Ave. N. in Downtown St. Petersburg according to the Tampa Bay Times.

A written agreement has been established between the store and Synovus property owner, Southeast Companies.  Although the details of the written agreement haven't been released, they'll likely based upon the grocery store deciding if the site works for its needs.  A final decision is expected to be made by the end of the year.

Still, officials on both sides of the deal are mum regarding the prospect of a new Whole Foods in St. Petersburg.  Both Synovus property owners and the Miami-based broker representing Whole Foods wouldn't confirm if the grocery chain will open a store in St. Pete according to the Times.

Since Synovus owns the entire block the bank sits upon, there won't have to be any modifications made to the actual bank building as room to construct the Whole Foods store will be adequate.  If the deal is confirmed, Whole Foods would join a bountiful roster of grocery stores in St. Petersburg including Fresh Market, Rollin' Oats, and three Publix locations within a three-mile radius of the store's potential location.

If opened, the Whole Foods in St. Petersburg would also join a sister store across the bay located at 1548 N. Dale Mabry Hwy. in Westshore.

We'll keep you updated as more news arises regarding the opening of this new Whole Foods store in St. Petersburg.
